Staff Spotlight Series: Luke Young
In our latest staff profile series, we’ve put the spotlight on Luke Young, our Product Manager at Leighton O’Brien. If you’ve watched our video series What Keeps You Awake At Night, you may already know that he’s a guru when it comes to our iHUB platform. Read on!
Describe what you do and the best part about your job?
I manage the roadmap for iHUB, our fuel management platform, and oversee the process of taking ideas from conceptualization to customer delivery for new features and enhancements.
I love the variety. I enjoy collaborating with different departments like Marketing, Sales, Engineering and Operations. Product requires a diverse skill set which includes project management, data analysis, wireframing, and industry knowledge. If you enjoy versatility, product work is fun!
What key thing have you learned from working at Leighton O’Brien?
Effective communication is crucial when working with global teams. Ensuring high-quality hand-offs is essential to deliver a seamless experience to our customers.
To what do you attribute your success in your role?
Since I’ve managed Underground Storage Tanks (UST) compliance and have worked as a champion and project manager for our Wetstock product, I bring fuel retail and end user experience to the table.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I looked up to Indiana Jones as a kid and dreamed of becoming an archaeologist who embarks on adventures around the world. Coincidentally, I share Indy’s fear of snakes.
What was the most recent book you read?
Ron Chernow’s book “Grant” is about Ulysses S. Grant, a person who exemplified courage and selflessness. This general led the United States to victory in the U.S. Civil War and later served two terms as President. He was far from perfect but always tried to reconcile his wrongdoings.
If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?
- Notes (I coordinate with my wife for packing lists, grocery shopping, etc.)
- Kindle (read from anywhere)
- Reddit (shared interests and knowledge)
