Heatwave to cause power supply struggles – will your emergency generator run when it’s needed?
This weekend another heatwave is to hit parts of South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria, with metropolitan areas to soar above 40C.
Last week’s heatwave left South Australia reliant on a fleet of diesel generators to prevent blackouts and many hospitals across the three states reverted to emergency only power use to avoid a complete blackout. As power supply struggles, are you confident your emergency generator will run when you need it?
Diesel fuel sitting idle for long periods can become contaminated, and degrade to the point that your generator will fail to run.
A 5-minute test is not sufficient to detect degraded diesel in your tank. However, a diesel fuel sample takes less than 10 minutes and can give you the peace of mind that your emergency power system will function when you need it most.
If your diesel is degraded, it can be restored to health – so you can lengthen the life of your existing diesel fuel and save major costs without the need for costly diesel replacement.
So don’t wait until it is too late. If you are worried that it has been a while since your diesel was checked for water or microbial activity, contact Leighton O’Brien.
