Leighton O’Brien is expanding market coverage of its Energy Services business following the acquisition of Whitsunday Fuel Service, based in Mackay, Queensland.

Whitsunday Fuel Service is a leading provider of maintenance services for service station operators in Central and Northern Queensland, including reactive and planned maintenance of fuel infrastructure.

Under the deal Whitsunday Fuel Service will fold into Leighton O’Brien’s Energy Services division, with founder and director Robin Norman to become Northern Region Operations Manager, responsible for geographic service coverage from Bundaberg up through Far North Queensland.

Mr Norman has almost 20 years’ experience in the mining, oil and gas industry, including installation, maintenance, project management and service delivery.

Leighton O’Brien will also employ former Whitsunday Fuel Service technicians, bolstering its technical service capability in the region.

Leighton O’Brien Chief Operating Officer Chris Cooper said, “This is another key step in the growth of our Energy Services business. The strong regional presence Whitsunday Fuel Service provides means we can service fuel retailers with sites in this area efficiently and effectively.

“We’re pleased to invest in the region and scale up our business, adding depth and direct service operations to meet key customer needs including asset uptime, business continuity, transparency and high-quality maintenance services carried out to the highest safety standards.

“It will also enable us to leverage these resources for tank integrity testing and fuel cleaning for fuel retailers and commercial fuel operators.

“It’s been just over a year since we launched Energy Services, which has grown from strength to strength, servicing a gap in the market for a one-stop-shop provider of fuel infrastructure maintenance throughout the country.

“We welcome Robin and the team to the Leighton O’Brien family and look forward to enhancing our service capability in the region.”
