Unlike a service station where fuel is regularly used and replenished, many systems sit for an extended period of time. When fuel sits past its shelf life it may degrade in quality. This out of spec fuel may not allow the engine on your emergency back-up power system, your ship and your diesel equipment to function.
When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the number of emergency systems with bad fuel that failed to operate when needed most was a significant factor in the problems the city faced. Hospitals, Prisons, Critical data centres, office buildings all went without emergency power because the back-up fuel in emergency generators had not been regularly inspected and maintained.
Leighton O'Brien Fuel Restoration provides comprehensive fuel quality maintenance plans to ensure your fuel will work when you need it to work. Fuel that has degraded can also be restored to health - meaning you can save costs without the need to have it disposed of and replaced.
Our regular fuel maintenance program monitors and assesses the condition and quality of the stored fuel over time. Leighton O'Brien fuel maintenance program includes:
- Quarterly scheduled site visits
- Tanks are dipped for water
- A fuel sample will be from the bottom of the tank to test for:
- Bacterial and Fungal activity
- Visual clarity and colour
- Inspection of all cap seals to ensure they provide sufficient seal to prevent ingress of water
- Where fuel is out of specification or dirty it is restored to health and cleaned
- Where an STS system (automated fuel filtration system) is present:
- Conduct a system check
- Test sensors and Alarms
- Flush Primary Filters
- Change Secondary Filters
